FV releases 2026 fees following comprehensive review

Football Victoria (FV) can today release the 2026 FV Fee structure, well in advance of the 2026 season.

In 2025, FV commenced a comprehensive review of our fee structure, to ensure that FV fees are fair, consistent and fit for purpose.

The review identified a number of inconsistencies across competitions, regions and genders. While many of these differences were logical and procedural during that time, we acknowledge our landscape and the requirements of our stakeholders has since evolved. A fairer balance is now required between player registration fees and team entry fees across all football participants.

By way of background, players currently pay:

  • Player registration fees: Paid directly to FV and Football Australia (FA) at the time of registration on playfootball.com.au. These support all aspects of competition management including fixturing, competition rules/policies, referee scheduling, education and accreditation, player dispensation requests, discipline procedures (including the GDT), council liaison and club support services. Fees are set annually by FV and FA.
  • Club fees: Paid directly to the club, covering FV team entry fees and facilities costs, and potentially other club costs including coaches, apparel and events. These are set annually by each club.

FV considered and compared a range of factors; including team entry fees, player registration fees, referee match payments, average number of players per team and total matches played; in order to determine the average cost paid per match collectively by players and clubs. This informed a realignment of FV’s fees guided by the following principles:

  1. Simplified structure: Every player to contribute a standardised registration fee based on age only, with no distinction in player registration fees between competition, gender or region. Differences between competitions are reflected in team entry fees, not player registration fees.
  2. Gender re-aligned modelling: While lower fees for women and girls were intended to reduce barriers, they have unfortunately sometimes led to instances of female players being allocated poorer facilities, scheduling and access in the community. By aligning FV participation fees and more closely aligning team entry fees across genders, female participants will have a stronger platform to advocate for equal access to facilities, resources and opportunities at their clubs.
  3. Regional integration: In line with the Regional Review, over 18,000 regional participants will now fall under FV’s direct administration. The Regional Association layer will be removed, while maintaining the same overall fee base for regional participants and clubs.
  4. Supporting participation: Metropolitan Junior and Coles MiniRoos fees have been reduced by approximately 8% on average, to assist with the ongoing attraction of new players.
  5. Overall cost stability: Metropolitan Community and NPL fees (collectively) will increase by only 1% on average (below CPI) to support participation costs.

The new, uniform player registration fees for 2026 are:

  • MiniRoos (Metro/Regional): $60
  • Juniors (Metro/Regional Community & NPL): $100
  • Seniors (Metro/Regional Community & NPL): $200
  • Social/Futsal Juniors: $30
  • Social/Futsal Seniors: $40

For most players, the overall impact of these changes will be negligible: Fees will reduce, remain unchanged, or rise only slightly. However, a small number of competitions will see larger increases.

  • Metro MiniRoos and Juniors (53,000 participants): 8% average decrease.
  • Futsal and Social (8,000 participants): 5% average decrease.
  • Regional (18,000 participants): Collective fees maintained at current level.*
  • Metro Senior (14,000 participants): Small decreases, no change or minor increases.
  • NPL Senior Men’s (2,000 participants): Decrease in team entry fees, with a player registration fee introduced to align with all other competitions.
  • Advanced Junior Boys (4,000 participants): Increase in team entry fees either fully or largely offset by reduction in player registration fees.
  • NPL Women’s (500 participants): No increase in team entry fees, with a player registration fee introduced to align with all other competitions.
  • VPL Women’s (500 participants): Minimal change to player registration fees, with an increase to the team entry fee to align closer to Men’s competitions.
  • Advanced Junior Girls (800 participants): Either a reduction or no change to team entry fees across age groups, with a player registration fee introduced to align with all other competitions.

* Regional players will also see an increase in fees paid directly to FV, due to the shift to FV administration. However, this is offset by the removal of Regional Association fees. For the majority of regional areas, the net result will be a decrease or minor increase to fees, though some regions will see a larger increase.

FV CEO, Dan Birrell reinforced the intention behind the changes.

“As custodians of football in Victoria, it is essential that we continually review our processes and structures to ensure the game remains accessible to everyone, with participation costs shared fairly across the community.

“While the transition to a new, simplified fee structure brings more changes than usual this year, releasing the fees early will provide clubs and participants with additional time to prepare and plan effectively.

“We acknowledge that not everyone will benefit equally from these changes, but we are confident they will create a strong foundation for football to grow and thrive well into the future.”

FA has also released its National Registration Fees (NRF) for 2026, which players pay directly at the time of registration to FA. The fees for 2026 can be found here.
