Football Victoria is committed to increasing the number of female coaches across all levels of the game. Currently, women and girls are underrepresented in coach education courses, leading to low visibility of female coaches from community clubs through to NPL and A-League clubs.
Only 14% of coaches in Victoria are female.
We recognise that various barriers—such as financial constraints, course accessibility, and work-life balance—prevent women from starting or progressing in their coaching journeys. However, we also know that by increasing the visibility of female coaches, we will inspire more girls to get involved in football—both as players and coaches. When women are empowered to take leadership roles in coaching, they contribute to a more inclusive and diverse football community.
Introducing CoacHER
The CoacHER Pathway Program is designed for females of all ages, regardless of whether you are already coaching, playing or aspiring to start your coaching journey.
This initiative is a step towards creating a sustainable pathway for female coaches, ensuring more women can lead, inspire, and shape the future of football in Victoria. The program aims to:
- Remove barriers to coaching courses and Continued Professional Development (CPD) opportunities for aspiring and experienced female coaches
- Increase female representation in coaching roles across all levels of football
- Provide financial support, mentorship, and networking opportunities to ensure women can thrive in coaching environments
Football Victoria will roll out a number of initiatives, which include:
- Financial support to enrol in coaching courses, including our popular Nike FC partnered coaching courses
- Mentorship opportunities from experienced coaches
- Access to CPD workshops and networking events
