All 2021 FV season competitions are cancelled in metropolitan Melbourne.
FV is planning for range of football programs across spring and summer for players to Get In The Game.
Most Clubs share their facilities with summer sports, meaning we do not have enough suitable venues to host football so late in the year.
While we express our gratitude to Cricket Victoria for their flexibility in handover dates, we have now reached a point which won’t allow us to safely return within this extended window.
As a result of the cancelled season, Football Victoria is currently finalising the FV 2021 Fee Refund Policy. This will provide details as to the level of refunds in relation to FV team entry and player registration fees. Note that this relates only to the Football Victoria fees, and does not include Club fees. Clubs will be required to formulate their own refund policy. Details on the Football Victoria 2021 Fee Refund Policy will be provided to all stakeholders by Friday, 17 September.
In the interest of fairness and with the uncertainty of Government restrictions, the 2021 season has been declared as incomplete, thus cancelling all promotion and relegation for 2022 competitions.
In collaboration with the football community, FV will commence a process to review the Rules of Competition, enabling transparent changes to competition outcomes from 2022, including Promotion and Relegation, in the event of any future interrupted seasons.
FV will engage directly with the Clubs involved in our Nike F.C. Cup and Dockerty Cup finals, to determine if these matches can be played before the end of the year.
As the FFA Cup is administered by Football Australia, FA will provide guidance directly to participating Clubs.
FV are considering what other competition options are available when the Government regulations allow for community sport to return.
Different formats of our game will also be on offer across spring and summer, particularly for junior participants. These include our popular GO Fives/GO Sevens and Futsal programs. Further information will be provided when a return to play is possible.
FV is committed to providing opportunities to play football for our community when possible.
At this stage, there is no directive regarding filling vacancies for Season 2022.
FV will continue to work with all stakeholders and will be guided by government regulations in relation to the 2022 season. We do look forward to returning bigger and better in season 2022.
We understand that not all decisions will be considered favourably by our stakeholders. The decision to abandon the season has been a difficult one. The lockdown extension through September, with no guaranteed timeframe for a safe return to football, leaves us with no choice but to cancel the 2021 season for all metropolitan Melbourne competitions.
We ask that all parents/guardians and players consider and respect the decision made by the FV Board regarding the abandonment of the 2021 season.
The FV Board considered several scenarios for every competition.
Many of the planned scenarios have been eliminated in recent weeks, due to the key dates passing with extended lockdowns across the state. The lockdown extension through September, with no guaranteed timeframe for a safe return to football, left the FV Board with no choice but to cancel the 2021 season for all metropolitan Melbourne competitions.
Although all sporting associations operate in different environments, many have regretfully had to cancel their 2021 seasons
We urge all stakeholders to heed the advice and regulations placed by order of the State Government. FV will release RTP information once this has been provided.
COVID-19 & Football FAQ

No. COVID-19 is not a bodily injury as defined under the policy. In the same way the policy would not previously cover people if they caught the flu.
Clubs and players will not be covered by insurance policies and, depending on the circumstances, FV may enforce sanctions under the Grievance, Disciplinary and Tribunal Bylaw.
Breaches of current State Government restrictions may also attract on the spot fines from police as well as substantial fines under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2018.
Clubs will need to make arrangements with the venue owner (generally your Council) regarding any change to cleaning schedules as a result of the Return to Play Conditions, noting that this may be covered under the terms of your lease.
We would reiterate that FV’s conditions implement the rules announced by the Victorian Government for the purposes of football.
