Latrobe Valley Soccer League - Life Members

The following individuals were awarded Life Membership by the Latrobe Valley Soccer League (LVSL) since the League was formed in 1951.

All have been formally recognised as Football Victoria Life Members at the 2025 FV Annual General Meeting in May 2026.

Pastor Norman Minor (1953)

The Godfather of football in the Latrobe Valley, Pastor Norman Minor toiled away for the best part of two decades, before finally making his mark when the Latrobe Valley Soccer Association was formed in 1951. As the Association’s inaugural President, Minor was a firm believer in media advocacy, regularly submitting columns to the local press and football’s ‘Soccer News’ to promote the game’s virues. In essence, he was the region’s original Publicity Officer and the game flourished under his stewardship.

Lou Adrichem (1975)

Born in the Netherlands, Lou settled with his family in Morwell in the 1950s, taking up coaching roles with Morwell Rangers and Fortuna Soccer Club, where he also served as Secretary and Treasurer. He reprised his role with Yallourn the following decade and was ultimately elected Treasurer with the LVSL in 1975 where he served through to 1993. Along with Life Membership, he was later recognised by the LVSL for 40 years of service to the game.

John Halkett (1975)

A founding member of Traralgon City Soccer Club, John served the club as Secretary throughout the 1970s. He performed the role of Appointment Officer with the LVSL Referees Branch and was a General Member of the LVSL Committee, awarded with Life Membership in 1975.

Ron Steel (2011)

An active serviceman in WW2 as an Officer in the British Navy, Ron was a former LVSL Secretary and Board Member for many years, instrumental in developing the sports junior competitions as the League flourished in the 1950s. The Steel Cup was named after Ron and Ken Steel (a Life Member with Football Victoria). Ron passed away in 2020.

Luke Cheney (2011)

Having represented the region at National League level with the then Gippsland Falcons, Luke played Representative footballer as a Junior and gained a wealth of experience in Football Victoria competition, most notably with Morwell Pegasus.

John Hutchinson (2011)

A Morwell Pegasus junior with almost 400 appearances in the NSL and A-League, John represented the Gippsland Falcons with distinction, making 89 appearances before winning a Championship with the Central Coast Mariners. He represented Malta, the country of his heritage, earning 11 caps between 2009 and 2011. He is an esteemed coach having worked in Australia, the United States and Japan at a professional level.

Tom Thompson (2012)

Involved with Morwell Pegasus Soccer Club since 1962, Tom played with distinction winning Club and League Best and Fairest Awards before retiring to an off-field roles, most notably as President of the club before he became a Member of the LVSL committee.

Peter Albanese (2022)

An icon with Moe United Soccer Club for half a century, Peter is the club's games record holder, the custodian amassing a remarkable 1,200 matches, over 800 of which have been with the Seniors. The Goalkeeper was elevated to Legend status by the LVSL in 2022.

Allan Roberts (2023)

Allan was an ever-present on the Board of the La Trobe Valley Soccer League, from the moment it was re-established in 2016, carrying over his executive role from the former Gippsland Soccer league. He served as President of the LVSL for almost a decade, and was instrumental in managing the League’s Disciplinary procedures and appointing independent tribunal panels. Allan represented the LVSL on the Country League's Football Association, playing a critical hand in organising the Victorian Country Championships for several years.

Madelaine Breakspear (2026)

Women’s football has grown immeasurably throughout Madelaine’s time in the game. For almost a quarter-of-a-century, she has represented the LVSL with distinction, firstly as a Junior and Senior player, then as a Coach since 2022. Her eight-year career in the Victorian top-flight with Box Hill United culminated in League and Cup wins, but it is her work as a Coach and Mentor, particularly at her childhood club Sale United, that sets her apart from her peers. She was awarded the 2022 FV Female Community Coach of the Year and the Community Coach of the Year at the 2024 Victorian Sport Awards.
