2023 Football Victoria State Championships

Junior footballers from around Victoria gathered at Darebin International Sports Centre during the April School holidays for the 2023 FV State Championships.

Just under 450 players represented metro and regional zones at the tournament from the U9-17 age groups.

FV Talent Development Officer Sean Gale said the coaching staff was "thoroughly pleased" with the two-day tournament.

"The players and coaches have been exposed to a variety of development opportunities and our technical coaches have been encouraged by the way our squads have worked together”

“The TIDC Victorian State Championship is one of Australia’s largest Talent identification events, this year we had the pleasure of hosting South Australia (SA) NTC boys squads from 2010 -2007 born age groups, something that exposes our Victorian Regional and Metro players to high-level opposition & different styles of play."

32 teams competed with 30 fixtures per day with participants playing a minimum of four games across the two days.

FV welcomed South Australia to the State Championship for the first time in a number of years, providing further competition and allowing Victorian players to test themselves against the best from across the border.

There were 20 Talent ID coaches present at the tournament with players scouted across both days.

FV Technical Director Boris Seroshtan said the tournament was a "big success".

"I would like to thank Football South Australia for attending and making it such a competitive event.

"Following the success of this event, we are planning on conducting similar tournaments more often."

FV Head of Referees Tony Peart said the tournament was the "perfect environment" for the 28 referees at the tournament to continue their development.

"It was a really good tournament, spectators were really well behaved and the games were played in a fantastic environment and spirit.

"Coaching was made in-person and we had the benefit of the games being recorded so our officials could review their performances and incidents.

"It was another opportunity for intense coaching as our officials continue to build following a successful start to the season."

The referees at the championships greatly benefited from the experience, learning from FV's Andrew Meimarakis and Kate Jacewicz along with the rest of the FV referee coaches.
