2024 Victorian Cup of Nations Wrap

The inaugural Victorian Cup of Nations (VCON) is in the books, and what a memorable four weeks it was! Football Victoria, in partnership with the Victorian Government, is thrilled to have brought this vibrant fusion of football and festival to life.

Throughout June, The Home of the Matildas played host to VCON, showcasing national pride each Saturday of the month. The event was a celebration of cultural diversity and community connectedness through sport, embodying the essence of unity and mutual respect among Victoria's varied communities.

The festival atmosphere extended beyond the pitch, with music, and vibrant performances that showcased the unique cultures that call Victoria home. Football Victoria extends heartfelt thanks to all the performers who contributed to the lively and colorful environment, making each Saturday a true celebration of multiculturalism.

FV Growth & Development Program Coordinator, Natalie Pafralis said her tournament highlight was the connection between the participants.

"The most significant outcome of the event was its ability to connect people with others in their community," she said.

"A perfect example of the connection made through the tournament is one women's group with three players from a pre-existing, established team joined a group of individual registered players to form a new team for the four-week tournament. The new players, who in many cases had recently arrived in Australia, are now training with an existing team outside of VCON and are looking to transition into a Football Victoria run competition next season."

The tournament results were thrilling, with Colombia edging out Falam Chin 4-3 in the Men's Final and the Colombian women’s team defeating Europe 2-0 in their Final.

Congratulations to all the participants and thank you to everyone who made VCON a success. We look forward to seeing you in February next year for another celebration of football and cultural unity!
