2024 Volunteer Week Feature: Doug Williams (Casey Comets SC)

National Volunteer Week (May 20-26) stands as Australia’s premier annual celebration of volunteering, highlighting the invaluable contributions individuals make to various causes.

Football Victoria is proud to join this celebration by spotlighting some of our remarkable volunteers from our community, recognising their diverse talents and unwavering passion for volunteering.

Doug Williams

Since 2000, Doug Williams has been a cornerstone of Casey Comets FC.

Casey Comets FC said much of Doug’s work "goes unseen" but his tireless efforts are crucial in ensuring football continues to be played every week for hundreds of community members.

"He has single-handedly maintained the club’s grounds, keeping the lines marked across two senior pitches, two full-size junior pitches, four half-size pitches, and two quarter-size pitches," the Club said.

"Doug's commitment doesn't stop at the pitch; he spends countless hours working in the canteen and bar, cleaning the clubrooms, and maintaining the eight change rooms.

"During heatwaves or sprinkler failures, Doug dedicates entire days to watering the pitches, ensuring they remain in top condition. His efforts also extend to essential pitch and fence repairs, guaranteeing that football can be played every weekend."

Despite facing serious health challenges over the years, Doug has continued to volunteer, only pausing for major surgery. His resilience and dedication have been vital, contributing countless hours each week to keep the club in the best shape possible.
