VPLW Grand Final Preview: Spring Hills FC v Keilor Park SC
The 2024 Victorian Premier League Women’s (VPLW) Champion will be crowned this afternoon when Spring Hills face off against Keilor Park at The Home of the Matildas with a 3pm kick-off.
Spring Hills have had an outstanding season the VPLW season, claiming the Premiership after winning 19 out of their 22 matches and an unbelievable difference of +80. Conceding only 16 goals all season and suffering just one defeat, they’ve firmly established themselves as the team to beat.
Leading their charge is Dayna Stevens, who netted an impressive 37 goals, finishing second in the Golden Boot race. Saki Nagai (14 goals) will also be one to watch, along with the ever-reliable Aleks Sinclair (nine goals). Their attacking prowess was on full display in Round 8 when they dismantled South Yarra FC 13-0.
Keilor Park finished third on the ladder in a strong VPLW season with 17 wins and three losses. Their solid line of defence has had them concede 26 goals this season with an impressive 48+ goal difference.
Sawa Matsuda, who tallied 28 goals this season, has been a standout for Keilor, while Khiana Shervey’s 11 goals have made her a key player as well. Their firepower was on display in Round 17, where they triumphed 9-0 over Bundoora United.
The last time these two sides met they could not be separated at the end of the 90 minutes in a 0-0 draw. Prior to that Round 22 draw, Spring Hills took bragging rights over Keilor Park in a 4-3 win in Round 4 in a thrilling contest.
With it all on the line, this contest promises to be entertaining as these two great teams battle it out for the VPLW Championship.
