Victoria Crowned Under 15 Champions at 2025 CommBank Emerging Socceroos Championships

Congratulations to our Under 15 Blue team, who have been crowned the 2025 Under 15 CommBank Emerging Socceroos Champions, after defeating Queensland Maroon 3-0 this morning.

The win, a second straight for the Under 15 Blues and Head Coach Vaughan Coveney, capped a brilliant tournament for the team, who went undefeated and conceded just three goals in six matches on the way to the crown.

The Blues took the lead early, thanks to a thunderbolt from Jordan Vonja which he guided into the top corner from outside of the penalty box. Thomas Nasso doubled our lead ten minutes later, his sixth goal in what has been an impressive tournament for the Melbourne City Academy prospect. The win was sealed when Levi Buttigieg added a third with ten minutes remaining.

Coveney applauded the strong pathways in Victoria and highlighted the opportunities national championships like this provide the best players in the state.

“I’m super excited for the boys, we had a great week and they performed really, really, well.

“It just goes to show that Victoria, at both grassroots and NPL level, is doing some great things. We just have to keep building, and hopefully after this tournament, some of our players get selected into those national camps which is the ultimate goal.

“By playing elite matches against the best in the country is how they learn. We are really happy with the team and they deserve everything they’ve achieved this week.”

The win was one of our three for the day, with the Under 15 White side taking out the 5th place playoff with a 5-0 win over NSW Navy, and the Under 16 White side knocking off the Northern Territory 3-1 to claim 9th place overall.

The Under 16 Blue side finished fourth overall after dropping their last game of the tournament 4-0 against the NSW Navy side.

Football Victoria Head of Youth Development Steve Mautone could not be prouder of what these teams have achieved during the Championships.

"What an incredible way to cap what has been a fantastic Championships this week. The results we have achieved this week really are a testament to our coaches, support staff, our players, their families and their home clubs.

"In particular I'd like to congratulate the Under 15 Blue side and their Head Coach Vaughan Coveney who were crowned the Champions this morning. Their 3-0 win really summed up what was a brilliant run for the boys, who should be incredibly proud of their performance.

"On behalf of Football Victoria, I would like to thank everyone who made these Championships a memorable one. From the team at Football Australia who ran the event, the fans and family members who cheered us on all week, and our players and support staff who represented Victoria proudly; thank you.

"We cannot wait to cheer on the girls next week at the 2025 CommBank Emerging Matildas Championships in Sydney."
