2026 Football Victoria Country Championships - Day 1 Wrap

Day 1 of the 2026 Football Victoria (FV) Country Championships is in the books, and our annual regional football carnival is off to a flyer in Geelong.

The 2026 Championships, the second edition managed by FV and the first since the restructured regional football model was launched in December, were officially opened at Myers Reserve with speakers from FV and the City of Greater Geelong welcoming everyone.

CommBank Matildas star Kyra Cooney-Cross was in attendance to welcome everyone to the 2026 FV Country Championships.

Excitingly, there was also Australian football royalty on-hand to welcome all in attendance to the Championships - CommBank Matildas gun Kyra Cooney-Cross - who was all too happy to stop for photos and sign jerseys.

From there it was time to take to the Myers Reserve and Stead park pitches for a day of football in unusually friendly conditions for Geelong in June. Some early drizzle made way for a mostly sunny afternoon and evening allowing for high-quality football and plenty of goals.

The atmosphere across both locations was fantastic all day, with cheers, chants and lots of FIFA World Cup talk filling the air and brilliant play lighting up the pitches.

Day 2 of the 2026 FV Country Championships kicks-off tomorrow from 8:30am and you can track all of the scores and fixtures on the Dribl app.
