After 99 clubs battled it out in Nike FC Cup action since March, the field has been narrowed down to the final two.
Heidelberg United and Essendon Royals will now battle for one of Victorian football’s most prestigious honours when they meet in the 2026 Nike FC Cup Final at The Home of The Matildas on Saturday evening.

For Heidelberg, the final presents an opportunity for redemption after falling just short against South Melbourne in last year's decider. The Bergers are back on the biggest stage, chasing a second Nike FC Cup crown and their first since lifting the trophy in 2016.
Standing in their way is an Essendon Royals side writing their own piece of history. The Royals have reached their first-ever Nike FC Cup Final, three years after claiming the inaugural Steph Catley Plate title in 2023 via a penalty shootout.

Heidelberg holds the slight advantage in the head-to-head record between the two sides, leading 4-3 across their seven previous meetings and with every clash between the clubs producing a winner, history suggests another entertaining contest awaits.
Heidelberg’s route to redemption has been anything but straightforward. The Bergers recovered from an early deficit to defeat Avondale, survived a 10-goal thriller against Caroline Springs, produced a 4-0 victory over Clifton Hill despite playing with 10 players for more than 70 minutes, before gaining redemption over South Melbourne in a hard-fought 1-0 Semi Final win.
The Bergers have been absolute resolute defence during their cup run, conceding just one goal on their way to the Final, with captain Rosie Wild marshalling a backline that has consistently risen to the occasion throughout their cup campaign.
Going forward, Haley Phillips, Olivia Wood, Irena Razumic and Ruby King have all delivered crucial goals throughout the campaign and will look to the same quartet to the find the back of the net come Saturday.
Just like their opponents, Essendon Royals have had to dig deep to secure their place in the Final. The Royals first overcame a Melbourne Victory side full of young talent, before requiring extra time to eliminate VPLW leaders Eltham Redbacks. A penalty shootout triumph over Alamein followed, before producing one of the comebacks of the tournament in their semi-final against Bulleen Lions.
Tasked with travelling to the Veneto Club to take on Bulleen Lions for a place in the Final, Essendon found themselves two goals down inside the opening 10 minutes. Instead of folding under the pressure, the Royals dug deep, responding with four unanswered goals to complete a remarkable comeback and book their place in the decider.

Led by Mia Bailey between the sticks, Heidelberg’s defensive unit has been a pillar of their cup run, but Essendon’s attacking quality and ability to punish any opportunity will provide a fascinating challenge in the Final.
