Football Victoria (FV) and Latrobe City Council (LCC) are joining forces to bring the 2027 Country Championships to the Latrobe City, with the three-day event set to showcase the region’s new Gippsland Sports and Entertainment Precinct (GSEP) to clubs, players, families and visitors from across Victoria.
The 2027 Country Championships will be held from July 3–5 across, bringing teams from across regional Victoria together for a weekend of football and providing an exciting opportunity to activate the state-of-the-art Gippsland Sports and Entertainment Precinct.
The Championships will be held at a different time of year to previous editions, with the July timing providing FV and LCC with an opportunity to showcase GSEP and demonstrate its potential as a premier destination for football, major sporting events and community activity.
FV Regional Development Manager Lauren Stevens said the Championships would provide an exciting opportunity to bring regional football to the Latrobe City while showcasing the new precinct.
“The Country Championships are a great opportunity to bring regional clubs, players and families together for a weekend of football, and we’re really looking forward to taking the event to the Latrobe City in 2027,” Stevens said.
“The change in timing also presents an exciting opportunity to work alongside Latrobe City Council to activate the Gippsland Sports and Entertainment Precinct and showcase this fantastic new facility to the regional football community.
“Regional football continues to play an important role in the Victorian football landscape, and events like the Country Championships give players and clubs the chance to compete, connect and celebrate the strength of football across the state.”
The three-day event will see players, coaches, officials and families from across regional Victoria descend on the Latrobe City, providing a significant opportunity to showcase the region and its facilities while supporting local businesses and the broader community.
For FV and Latrobe City Council, the Championships represent an important first step in showcasing the capability of GSEP and its potential to attract future sporting events to the region.
