Battle of the States: Victoria v Queensland returns in 2024

Football Victoria and Football Queensland can confirm the return of the Battle of the States to be held on Saturday, September 21 at Imperial Corp Stadium. 

A men’s and women’s side featuring the best players from across the NPL Victoria and NPL Queensland will represent their states as they go head-to-head in Queensland.

Following the success of the 2023 Battle of the States event hosted at The Home of the Matildas in Victoria, Football Victoria CEO, Chris Pehlivanis said he is thrilled take the historic rivalry to Queensland in 2024.

“After claiming both matches last year, Football Victoria will once again assemble the best talent from the NPLM and NPLW to take on Football Queensland’s state teams, "he said.

“Bringing together a representative team provides a great opportunity for players to line up alongside traditional rivals, and this year’s matches deliver an exciting chance for us to do all we can to retain the Rigby-Willis Cup (Men) and Jones-Millman Cup (Women).” 

Football Queensland CEO Robert Cavallucci shared his excitement on the Battle of the States returning. 

“The Battle of the States will be a highlight of the 2024 football calendar and provides great opportunity for our best Queensland male and female players to compete against high-quality interstate opposition,” he said.  

“We’re excited to see the return of the state-versus-state format and we look forward to collaborating with Football Victoria to elevate both of our states’ top talent.”

  • Men's: Football Victoria 1-1 (5-4 penalty shoot-out) Football Queensland
  • Women's: Football Victoria 2-1 Football Queensland)
