Celebrating Ben Roche, a Pararoos Pioneer

Decorated Victorian Pararoo, Ben Roche has hung up the boots, calling time on a near 20-year career with the national team.

Roche made 65 appearances for the Pararoos after making his debut on June 29, 2005, against Japan in Connecticut, USA.

In an emotional Instagram post, Roche said he was "very grateful" for the opportunity to represent his nation.

"Playing was one thing but seeing the opportunities that could be created for others became a driving force," he said.

"Although the body is still going the mind is not. Joining the Pararoos at 13, little did I know how much it would shape my life.

"I got to share the field with inspiring individuals that will continue to change the game. So many people made the journey possible so thank you to anyone who has ever supported, donated, shared or just genuinely cared. Everyone deserves a go and I’m very grateful that I got mine."

The ParaRoos Facebook Page said Roche has been nothing short of "extraordinary".

"He leaves behind a legacy that will echo through Australian football history for decades to come," the post said.

From the moment five-year-old Roche joined Ringwood City with his school friends, football was more than just a game to him—it was a passion, a calling.

As a midfielder, he was instrumental on the field, and known for his tenacity, skill, and leadership, but Ben's influence extended far beyond his athletic prowess.

Roche will continue in his role as Team Manager for both the CommBank Pararoos and the CommBank ParaMatildas.
