Celebrating Year One: The Home of The Matildas at La Trobe University

One year ago, a new chapter began, as The Home of The Matildas at La Trobe University officially opened its doors on July 3, 2023.

This landmark milestone marked not just the arrival of a world-class sporting facility; but a beacon of empowerment and excellence in women's sports. A strong message was sent to the world that here in Victoria, we prioritise and celebrate female athletes, supporting them to be the best they can be.

Designed to support our much-loved national teams, The CommBank Matildas, ParaMatildas, Young Matildas and Junior Matildas, the precinct uniquely opens the doors to the wider football community, with over 25,000 visitors and 200 clubs visiting the site for training, matches, workshops and courses in the past 12 months.

As we celebrate the first anniversary of Victoria’s football home, it's a great time to reflect on the milestones and memories created in this state-of-the-art facility. Relive some of the highlights in the video below.

Looking ahead, the facility continues to symbolize progress, unity, and achievement in female sports. The facility stands not just as a home for our elite teams; but as a symbol of Australia's commitment to fostering talent and promoting equality.

In the coming years, we anticipate more victories, more records broken, and more hearts touched by the passion of football at The Home of The Matildas.

Football Victoria is incredibly grateful to our key partners in the precinct – Football Australia, The Victorian Government, La Trobe University and Australian Government – for uniting on this journey, providing unwavering support for our game to inspire and enable future generations.

Here's to many more years of success, growth, and unforgettable moments at the Home of The Matildas. Happy first birthday!
