Dandenong Thunder appoints new Head Coach, David Chick steps down

Samson Elmazi has been appointed the new Head Coach of the Dandenong Thunder ahead of the upcoming NPLM season.

The Thunder finished eighth on the table last season, finishing with 33 points from 26 matches. 

On the Dandenong Thunder Facebook page, the Club wished Elmazi the "very best of luck" for the upcoming season.

"Sam (Elmazi) brings an enormous wealth of experience, expertise, and knowledge to the club and we’re ecstatic to have him on board for 2024," the statement said.

Elmazi previously coached the Thunder in the 2020-21 seasons, before retiring from the role in September 2021. 

Ilir Qaniu has also joined the Club as a Senior Assistant Coach for the 2024 season, following a season in charge of the Langwarrin SC U16 Boys'. 

"Ilir, who has a great range of experience and understanding of the game will be an integral part of the coaching staff alongside Seniors head coach, Sam Elmazi," Dandenong Thunder said on a social media post. 
 
"We wish Ilir all the best for the next season."

In August, Dandenong announced, 2023 Head Coach, David Chick had stepped down from his position following two seasons at the helm. 

The decision to step aside came to fruition following an agreement between Chick, Club and the committee.
