Victorian stalwart Andrew Meimarakis has been announced as an Assistant Referee for Saturday night’s Australia Cup 2022 Final at CommBank Stadium in Sydney.
Meimarakis has extensive experience across Victoria's top flight and at A-League level. Football Victoria congratulates him on behalf of the entire football community for this well earned opportunity.
29-year-old South Australian Daniel Elder has been appointed as the referee for the game, with Meimarakis and Andrej Giev to serve as Assistants for the clash between Sydney United 58 and Macarthur FC.
On making the announcement, Football Australia Head of Referees Nathan Magill said: “I would like to congratulate Daniel, Andrej, Andrew, Kurt, and Brad on their appointment to the Australia Cup 2022 Final.
“Their selection is deserved acknowledgment of their consistent performance throughout the competition this season, where refereeing in knockout football is a great experience and with officials rising to the challenge.
“As with players and coaches, the Australia Cup forms a critical development pathway for match officials throughout Australia, and it has been great to witness the match officials perform strongly from the preliminary stages through to now.
“I would like to acknowledge the Member Federation match officials who have been appointed to the preliminary round matches, and referee staff who have worked tirelessly in the development of these match officials across all four corners of the country,” Magill concluded.
Saturday’s Australia Cup 2022 Final has already created history, with Sydney United 58 FC becoming the first semi-professional club to reach the Final of Australia’s premier knockout competition where they will face Isuzu UTE A-League side, Macarthur FC, coached by former Premier League star, Dwight Yorke.
