Excitement is building for the 2025 Veto Sports State League Men's (SLM) season as Football Victoria (FV) officially unveils the final fixtures for divisions 1-5.
Set to kick off on the weekend of March 21, this season carries added significance as the final year under the current league structure before major changes take effect in 2026.
The first round promises thrilling matchups, as newly promoted teams look to make an impact and traditional contenders seek to assert dominance.
In Men’s State League 1 North-West, Upfield SC begins its campaign with a challenging clash against Clifton Hill. Upfield will be eager to prove themselves at this level, while Clifton Hill eyes a return to VPL2 for the first time in almost a decade.
Meanwhile in Men’s State League 2 North-West, Western Eagles, last season’s State League 3 North-West Premiers, face former VPL champions Altona East Phoenix. With momentum from their title-winning run, Western Eagles aim to continue their rise, but Altona East presents a formidable first test.
And in Men’s State League 5 South, Burwood City, new entrants to the competition, take on Old Trinity Grammarians, who will be looking to make an early statement against their league rivals.
The season will culminate in September at The Home of the Matildas, with play-off and Grand Final fixtures set to take place in line with the FV Competitions Calendar.
This fixture release aligns with FV’s 2024-28 Strategic Framework, which aims to enhance and unify competitions across all levels while clarifying the pathway for Senior Men's football in Victoria.
FV Community Competitions Manager, Dylan McKenzie underscored the anticipation for the season.
"After a thrilling finish to the 2024 season, with tightly contested playoffs and heart-stopping finals, we can feel how eager our clubs are to get back on the park.
"With the upcoming 2026 SLM restructure, this sets the stage for one of our most competitive and exciting seasons yet.
We wish all clubs the very best for 2025."
Team entries for the 2025 Veto Sports State League Women's (SLW) competition remain open, with draft fixturing set to begin shortly. The final SLW draws will be released in March, aligning with FV’s stipulated timelines for clubs.
With everything now in place, the countdown to the 2025 Veto Sports SLM season begins - bringing high stakes, intense battles, and a historic farewell to the current league structure before a new era begins in 2026.
