Football Victoria Announces New Women’s Metropolitan League Launching in 2026

Football Victoria (FV) is proud to unveil the Women’s Metropolitan League, a brand-new competition launching in 2026 that reflects FV’s ongoing investment in the growth, accessibility, and long-term sustainability of women’s football across the state.

Designed to bridge the gap between FV’s social football landscape and the existing State League pathway, the Women’s Metropolitan League creates a welcoming and competitive environment for women who want to continue playing at a structured level while balancing work, study, and family commitments. This competition will play a vital role in strengthening participation, retention, and progression opportunities for women at every stage of the football journey.

The league will operate in a traditional 11v11 format across a 16-week season, kicking off the weekend of April 26 and concluding on the weekend of September 6, with a finals format to be confirmed.

To further support participant wellbeing and flexibility, the season will include scheduled breaks during school holidays and Mother’s Day weekend.

Match days will be offered across multiple days to maximise accessibility:
• Friday nights
• Sundays
• Monday nights

The Women’s Metropolitan League will be delivered at a reduced Team Entry cost, ensuring affordability.

Additional competition details, including final fee structures, will be confirmed in the new year.
