Following a competitive recruitment process, the Football Victoria (FV) Board of Directors is delighted to announce the permanent appointment of Dan Birrell as Chief Executive Officer.
Birrell has served as FV’s Interim CEO since March 2025, delivering immediate and positive impact across the organisation and wider football community.
Prior to stepping into the interim role, Birrell was a key member of FV’s Executive, leading Football Operations. He has also held previous roles within FV with oversight of commercial, refereeing, coaching, high performance and pathways; providing a deep understanding of FV and the Victorian football landscape.
Birrell’s permanent appointment reflects the strong leadership he has demonstrated over the past six months, during which he has reshaped organisational culture, strengthened stakeholder relationships and aligned operational performance with FV’s strategic plan.
The Board’s decision follows a rigorous recruitment process, overseen by an independent agency, which attracted significant interest from a highly qualified field of candidates.
FV Chair, Dr Angela Williams, said the Board was confident Mr Birrell was the right person to lead the organisation.
“Dan has proven himself to be an outstanding leader during his time as Interim CEO.
“His vision, integrity and ability to connect with stakeholders have already had a profound impact on the organisation.
“The Board is confident that he is the right person to take Football Victoria forward.”
Mr Birrell said he was honoured to be appointed Chief Executive Officer.
“It is an immense privilege to lead Football Victoria.
“I am incredibly proud of the progress we have made together over the past six months, and I look forward to continuing to work with staff, clubs, government and partners to build an even stronger, more united football community.
“Football is the most inclusive and accessible sport in Victoria, and I am committed to ensuring that it continues to thrive for generations to come.”
