Football Victoria Launches FV Academy as Part of Enhanced Elite Pathways Program

Football Victoria (FV) is thrilled to announce the launch the Football Victoria Academy, marking a significant step forward in our commitment to developing young football talent across the state.

These academy will provide a high-performance training environment for boys and girls aged Under 14 to 17, as well as our successful women’s U20 and NPLW teams, offering a direct pathway to elite competition.

FV’s Head of Youth Development Steve Mautone said this is a “fantastic development” for youth football in Victoria.

"These academy will become the players' club, providing them with the opportunity to compete in the junior boys and girls NPL season in 2025. This provides a clear pathway for talented young players to progress,” he said.

Following a successful trial process that began in October, we have already welcomed a group of exciting young players into the program. The academy will focus on honing technical and tactical skills combined with promoting high-performance behaviours within young players, with access to expert coaching and state-of-the-art facilities at The Home of The Matildas.

The FV Academy is a crucial component of our broader Elite Pathways program, designed to create a seamless transition for players from grassroots to elite levels. We will be working closely with our existing TIDC and SAP programs to ensure continuity and consistency across all pathways.

The FV Academy aim to nurture and develop world-class players to successfully prepare them for the professional sporting environment and provide players with the connections and opportunities to do so. FV endeavours for graduates of the academy to progress to higher honours, with opportunities to represent junior national teams, secure placements with overseas clubs, or advance through A-Leagues and NPL clubs.

This pathway underscores FV’s commitment to fostering world-class football talent and preparing players for the professional sporting environment. In the lead-up to the 2025 season, we are also excited to announce the launch of dedicated social media pages for the FV Academy.

These platforms will showcase the incredible talent within our programs and provide updates on player development and upcoming events. "We are incredibly excited about the potential of the 2025 program," Mautone concluded.
