Heidelberg United has announced the departure of NPLM Head Coach George Katsakis ahead of the 2024 season.
The Bergers finished the 2023 season in ninth place on the NPLM table, with eight wins for the season, and fell to the Oakleigh Cannons in the Dockerty Cup Final 3-0.
Katsakis will go down as Heidelberg's longest-serving coach, having led the club through arguably its most successful era in Victoria's top flight.
"After more than 350 games at the helm in a stint spanning over a decade, Heidelberg United FC went through a thorough due process review and have made the hard decision to not reappoint George for the 2024 year." Heidelberg United said in a statement.
"We would like to take this opportunity to thank George and the Katsakis family for their contribution to Heidelberg United FC, Megas Alexandros, and wish him every possible success in his future endeavours.
"George and the extended Katsakis family will always be respected, acknowledged and part of the HUFC Family."
In 2017, Heidelberg claimed the Dockerty Cup, NPL Premiership, defeated A-League side Perth Glory en route to the quarter-finals of the FFA Cup, and claimed the NPL Australian Championship with a 2-0 win against former NSL Champions Brisbane Strikers.
The outgoing coach was named the 2017 NPL Coach of the Year, and led the club to the 2018 NPL Championship, along with the 2017, 2018, and 2019 Premierships and the 2018 Community Shield.
Kastsakis finishes his days in yellow and black as the NPL1 games coached record-holder with 239 matches for Heidelberg United between 2014-23.
Katsakis ends his journey at Heidelberg United as a great of the storied club and Football Victoria.
