CommBank Junior Matildas goalkeeper Dali Gorr Burchmore has reflected on the bittersweet end to Australia's historic FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup™ campaign, expressing pride in her teammates and the journey that brought them to the world stage.
Having featured in all three of Australia's Group F games, Gorr Burchmore played an integral role in the side's maiden appearance at the tournament, facing some of the world's best emerging talent.
Despite the disappointment of Australia's narrow defeat to Mexico bringing their campaign to an end, the young goalkeeper believes the experience will serve as motivation for the next chapter of her career.
"Yeah, it's sort of bittersweet. Like it's a really special moment for the girls. We've come a long way. It's a really, really special group. I wish we could have done better to get ourselves through, but the effort that we put in was huge, and we really put in a shift."
"We'll use that hurt to fuel us, and I'm sure we'll be playing together for years to come, and bigger and better things ahead."
The keeper featured in all three group stage games, making a massive save in second-half stoppage time in Australia's opening game against Chile, ensuring the side picked up a point in their first-ever FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup™ game.
"I'd say I'm most proud of the work I've put in. It's been a really big year at City, and here working from camp to camp, just trying to get better."
"But none of what I do happens without the group supporting me."
"That includes the keeper unit that we got, especially Alyse (Oppedisano). She's worked really hard to push me, and the girls who didn't play, everyone put a piece in, and that's what really gets me out there on the pitch to play with confidence."
Australia faced former two-time champions, Spain, the 2025 bronze medalists, Mexico, and Chile in their group stage games, able to be challenged against the best young footballers.
"You learn so much from playing against other countries, seeing their styles and the way they want to play. So it's a really valuable experience. I'm very grateful."
"Coming to these tournaments, you see the facilities, you see the work rate, you see everyone who comes together. It just shows me a bright future, what I can do and how I can get there."
"For me, I'll get back to work at City. Just keep working hard."
