Football clubs across Victoria are being supported to increase participation for women and girls with grants from the State Government.
Grants of up to $10,000 are available to eligible clubs and community groups to help them create more opportunities for women and girls at the grassroots level.
Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence said removing the barriers facing women and girls getting into community sport has “huge benefits” on and off the field – from the grassroots to the elite level.
“These grants help create more opportunities for women and girls at a local club level and help to inspire the next generation of female sporting stars,” she said.
The program aims to increase the participation options for women and girls in sport or active recreation, and provide opportunities for clubs and organisations to gain relevant skills and knowledge of gender equity practices in community sports.
In its sixth year, the program has already funded activations and events at more than 350 organisations across the state; support the adoption and embedding of gender equitable access and use policies and practices of community sport facilities.
The Program will fund activities that are aimed at achieving one or more of the following outcomes:
- Increased participation by women and girls in sport and active recreation;
- Enhanced understanding of gender equity practices, including gender equitable access and use policies and practices of community sports infrastructure;
- Celebration and elevation of women and girls in sport and active recreation
Together with the Fair Access Policy Roadmap, the program provides a great opportunity for clubs and organisations to expand equitable access and use of community sports infrastructure.
Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence opened applications for the 2022-23 round of the Change Our Game Community Activation Grants Program on Monday February 6.
