The Nike F.C. Cup has continued to grow year after year, welcoming a record high of 101 teams to participate in the 2023 edition.
The Victorian Women's Soccer Association organised the first Women's State Knockout Cup competition in 1974, with Green Gully defeating Melton 2-1 courtesy of a Hazel Donovan brace at Churchill Reserve.
Greensborough was one of the early forces of women’s football in the state and won eight of the first ten Cups and featured pioneers and FV Hall of Fame members Shona Bass, Janette Melvin, and Andrea Martin. They claimed notched back-to-back wins in the Cup in 1975-1976 and both the League and Cup competitions in every season between 1978 and 1983.
Several different iterations of the competition followed with multiple different winners prior to the competition going into recess before a timely rebirth in 2012 as the Pelada Cup with Box Hill United being (re)inaugural winners and Louisa Bisby named the Theresa Deas Medal for player of the match.
The Cup was simply known as the Women's State League Knockout Cup between 2013-14 and in 2015, it was known as the Team App Cup until March 2019 when it was announced Nike would become the official naming rights partner.
In recent years, Calder United has emerged as the new powerhouse in Victorian women's football, winning the last five Nike F.C. Cups in a row from 2017-22.
The Club has amassed 27 wins and just one loss since its debut in the competition, but will 2023 be the year we see a new Champion, ending Calder's reign of dominance over the competition?
