Joe Guest Caps Brilliant Year With NPLM Gold Medal

Oakleigh Cannons captain Joe Guest added a second NPLM Gold Medal to his cabinet at the 2025 Victorian Football Gala, having first claimed the award in 2019.

The midfielder was a runaway winner at the Crown Palladium, finishing with 33 votes, nine ahead of Heidelberg United’s Bul Juach in second place.

After receiving his award, Guest said he was “delighted” to win the prestigious honour for a second time.

“(This is) something I am obviously extremely proud of and will remember for a long time to come,” he said.

“I am extremely proud of everything I’ve achieved over the past six or seven years since signing for Oakleigh.

“I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has been part of that journey.”

Guest had a terrific season in midfield for the Cannons, scoring 15 goals, finishing second in the Golden Boot behind Bul Juach.

Since joining Oakleigh in 2019, Guest has helped the club win the 2022 and 2024 NPLM Championships and the 2021 Premiership.

After claiming last year’s grandest prize, Oakleigh was unable to go back-to-back, bowing out in the elimination final to a rampaging Preston Lions and finishing the season in fifth.

“Unfortunately, we didn’t produce what we wanted as a team or as a club this season, so there is plenty of room for improvement going into next year,” Guest said.

“I have loved every minute of being at Oakleigh, and I am looking forward to trying to add to that over the next few years.”

Guest was also named in the 2025 NPLM Team of the Season, announced via NPL social channels on Wednesday, September 24.
