Sale United and Traralgon Olympians taste success in LVSL Senior Cup Finals

On Sunday, 7 September, Football Victoria (FV) with Sale United FC hosted the LVSL Senior Cup Finals at Sale’s Godfrey Baldwin Reserve with four senior cup's up for grabs.

The LVSL, one of the strongest regional leagues in Victoria, has been a cornerstone of Gippsland’s football landscape since 1951. Its senior cup competitions  including the Battle of Britain, Browne Huizer Cup, Yallourn Shopwell Trophy and Nan Bosma Cup carry decades of local history.

Regional Development Coordinator Jackson Landy said it was fantastic to see the best of regional football come together in Sale for a great weekend of football. "It was fantastic to see everyone come out and support local football and enjoy a great display from the participating teams," he said.

"Thank you to Sale for hosting and congratulations to all of the winners."

Cup Final Results

Battle of Britain Cup (Senior Men)

Traralgon Olympians SC lifted the 74-year old trophy with a commanding 3–1 win over Monash SC. Jaydon Steelee and Moni Eliaser were on target, and Olympians' discipline at the back ensured they claimed the cup in strong fashion.

Browne Huizer Cup (Senior Women)

Sale United FC continued to make history, claiming their fourth consecutive Browne Huizer Cup with a 3–0 win over Tyers Lightning SC. The Cup, named in honour of local pioneers Nigel Browne and Adrian Huizer, has grown significantly since the women’s competition began in 2010 with the former in attendance to present the cup.

Yallourn Shopwell Trophy (Reserve Men)

In a tight contest, Sale United FC edged out Monash SC 1–0. Luke Wilson’s goal proved decisive, and Sale’s defensive resolve earned them the Yallourn Shopwell Trophy.

Nan Bosma Cup (Third Division Men)

Traralgon Olympians SC claimed their first trophy of the day in a thrilling 2–1 win over Tyers Lightning SC, Anton Sbaglia scored the first two goals of the game to put Olympians ahead before Budd Tanner converted from the spot late for Tyers to make it 2-1.
