Maribyrnong College claimed the Premier Schools Girls Cup on Wednesday, August 31 at John Ilhan Memorial Reserve.
The 2022 Premier School Girls Cup which was the first held since 2019 is an opportunity for schools to go head-to-head and compete for bragging rights as the Premier Football Association and School in Victoria.
Each school participating in the competition has won their association's championship, is currently on top of their association’s ladder, or is amongst the highest finishing teams within their association's table.
Maribyrnong College Jets (SSV) defeated the very competitive Wesley College (APS) 3-0 in the Grand Final with both teams proving to be a class above throughout the day.
The Jets overcame Kardinia International College and Wesley College beat St Monica’s College to reach the final.
Proceeding the commanding victory, Alana (captain) from Maribyrnong College was full of praise for the event.
“I’d like to thank FV for hosting this event, the day was great, and the girls all had so much,” she said.
Emily from Maribyrnong College was named the MVP after scoring three goals in the Grand Final.
FV Participation Officer Chelsea Hooper said the day was played in high spirits.
“The girls were all very respectful and supportive to their teammates and opponents,” she said.
“The players watched and supported other games while they had breaks throughout the day.
“Again, the event wouldn’t have run as smooth as it did, without the wonderful referees who kept games on time and schedule all day.”
Ivanhoe Grammar School coach, Elise Kyrgios said the Premier Schools Cup was a “great opportunity” for her side to take on schools from all over Victoria.
“I know my girls are really appreciative and are having the time of their lives just being able to get out of school and play one more day together,” Ms Kyrgios said.
FV Participation Officer – Schools Program Luke Francis said every player and coach should be proud of their approach and attitude on the day.
“It was a good day all in all,” he said.
“I thought everyone represented their school's core values very well.
“I think it was a good display of character for each participant and a very good representation of each participant's school.”
