Melbourne Knights appoint Ben Surey as NPLM Head Coach

Melbourne Knights FC has appointed Ben Surey as Head Coach ahead of the upcoming 2024 NPL Victoria season.

Following a nine-season playing stint at the Knights, Surey transitioned into the coaching ranks as the club's U20 coach and held the title of caretaker coach on two occasions.

In an article on the Knights website, Surey said the goal heading into the pre-season was to " win in every game we play and in every competition we compete in."

“I understand the responsibility and the expectations and look forward to the challenge of working with the players and the club to make the community proud," he said.

"It feels like we’re in a good place to start with but at the same time there’s a lot of work to do so it’s important to use the highs and the lows of last year and start building to improve again.”

Surey arrived at the club ahead of the 2010 VPL season and made over 120 league appearances, it was during this time he found himself in his first stint as caretaker coach, helping the club avoid relegation in 2017.

At the conclusion of the 2018 season he called time on his playing career and started his coaching journey as the Knights U20 coach the following season.

In 2022 he was once again named caretaker coach before taking on the role of assistant coach for the 2023 season.

Surey will look to continue the momentum started by outgoing 2023 NPL Coach of the Year Ben Cahn, where the club finished fourth in the NPL and made the Semi-Final of the Australia Cup and Dockerty Cup.
