Melbourne U-Nite Cup Decided

Afghan Premiers took out the recent Melbourne U-Nite Cup, taking the title with an unblemished record of eight consecutive wins.

And in the inaugural Melbourne U-Nite Cup for women, Australia Youth won the tournament by narrowly defeating Champs FC 3:2.

Organised by the Melbourne Chinese Soccer Association since 2013, the event was partnered by Football Victoria and Melbourne Victory.

Communities from various cultural backgrounds across Melbourne were invited to participate by forming their own teams.

The Melbourne U-Nite Cup helps bring Melbourne’s diverse communities together and participants make new friends via the world game.

In all, 24 teams representing 19 different communities participated in the latest Melbourne U-Nite Cup for men.

Afghan Premiers took on Korea final at AAMI Park, accounting for Bosnia, Syria, Zimbabwe, Korea, Japan, Timor Leste and Turkey along the way.

Team Korea, part of the Melbourne U-Nite Cup since its inception, had scorer Subeom An on fire, eventually winning Golden Boot award in this year’s Cup campaign.

In a grueling final where both teams missed opportunities, the game ended in a 0:0 draw at full time. Afghan Premiers then edged out Korea (4:2) on penalties.
