On Saturday 25 June, Football Victoria (FV) and Tarneit United SC partnered to kick off Refugee Week with a school holidays Miniroos tournament.
More than 120 people attended, as young boys and girls gathered in Tarneit with their families for a day of social activities and competitive football.
As the event launched Refugee Week, the Multicultural Settlement Program Community Coaches were in attendance and the day provided the perfect opportunity for kids from all backgrounds to connect over a mutual love of football.
Multicultural Programs Officer at FV, Abraham Abraham was delighted with the turnout and engagement from the community.
"It was a brilliant day full of music, food, fun activities and of course football. The Miniroos had a blast and their families had the opportunity to get involved and socialise throughout the day," he said.
GO Soccer Mums and Walking Football programs were also held, allowing parents and guardians of the Miniroos to get involved and bond over a friendly game of football
Abraham was joined by FV's Community and Human Rights Advocate Hakeem Al-Araibi, who has worked tirelessly to ensure football is used as a platform for positive social change and inclusion.
