National Futsal Championships 2026 - Day 1 Wrap

The 2026 National Futsal Championships officially kicked-off yesterday on the Gold Coast with over 100 teams from across the country gathered for the opening day of competition.

Welcoming players, coaches, match officials and families from every state for five days of on-court action, the biggest event on the national futsal calendar is being hosted by Football Queensland in partnership with Experience Gold Coast.

The Welcome Ceremony was also held, with special guests in attendance including the Honourable Steve Minnikin, Minister for Customer Services and Open Data and Minister for Small and Family Business, Councillor Bob La Castra, Chairperson for the City of Gold Coast's Economy, Tourism, and Events Committee, and Football Queensland President Paula Robinson.

It was a tough first day of the tournament for our Victorian teams, finishing with five wins, two draws and 14 losses from 21 games.

The Open Men Tigers, the reigning Open Mens champions, got their title defence off to a strong start with a 5-2 win over Football NSW Metro and our Under 15 Girls Navy side scored the biggest win of the day, winning 10-1 over Football NSW Country.
