Day 2 of the 2025 National Futsal Championships in Melbourne has come to a close, wrapping up another exciting day of futsal action.
Almost 6,000 fans, players and family members packed into the State Netball and Hockey Centre to watch over 50 games across the seven pitches, and the best players in the country did not disappoint, delivering a thrilling day of matches.
After two days of play, all teams now have a clear picture of what they need to do on Friday to book a place in Saturday's finals, which we will be sure to keep everyone across as the results come in tomorrow.
Let's get stuck into some of the Victorian performances from across the day.
After an emphatic 8-0 win over South Australia on day one, the U13 Boys Navy team will look to build on their momentum when they face Capital Football at 5:10 pm on pitch 15.
The U12 Boys team showed tremendous spirit despite a narrow 5-4 loss to Capital Football Gold earlier today. Munib Ahmedin and Tomi Prusac were standout performers, each scoring two goals. They bounced back strong though, taking down Football Tasmania 13-1, with Kyenne Colomiere scoring four and Anthony Karaikos scoring three.
The U13 Boys White faced another tough test in game two of the tournament, losing 12-0 to Football Queensland. They'll be hoping to finish the tournament strong tomorrow against Football West.
In a thrilling encounter, the U13 Girls Navy drew 5-5 with Football NSW. Violet Hall dazzled with a hat-trick, while Sophie McCaffrey added two goals to the tally.
The U13 Girls White bounced back from a first-round loss with a thrilling 1-0 win over Capital Football, with Milla Elvankeyis scoring the winner.
The U14 Boys team continued their strong start to the tournament, following up yesterday’s 6-3 win over Football NSW Country with a commanding 6-1 victory against Football Tasmania.
The U15 Boys faced a challenging game against Football Queensland, losing 12-2. They’ll aim to regroup and deliver a stronger performance in their next outing.
U15 Girls Navy fought hard but fell to Capital Football 3-1, while U15 Girls White had a bye in Round 2.
The U16 Boys played out a thrilling 6-all draw against Football Tasmania to start the day before falling to the Football NSW Thunder 9-0 in a tough evening match. Walid Ahmedin continued his strong tournament, kicking four goals against Tasmania, bringing his tally to nine for the championships.
After their impressive opening round win against South Australia, The U17 Girls fell agonisingly short of the perfect start to the tournament, losing 2-1 to Capital Football. Unfortunately, they couldn't bounce back in the evening, falling to Football Queensland 3-1.
Open Men Teams
- Tigers: The Tigers were able to overcome a one goal deficit and hold off a tough Football NSW Lightning side, finishing with a hard fought 3-1 win. Scott Rogan scored the match winner with just four minutes remaining.
- Blues: Scores were tied at one a piece at half time of the Blues match against the NSW Thunder. But three second half goals lifted the Blues to a tight 4-3 win. Atay Ibrahim netted two in the win.
- Navy: It was a tough day at the office for the Blues, losing to a strong Football Queensland side 10-3.
Youth Men
The Youth Men came up against a red-hot NSW Lightning side and couldn't get the better of them, falling 6-0 loss.
Open Women Teams
- Navy: The Open Navy Women played out a thrilling 1-1 draw against NSW Lightning to start the day, with Balqis Waljairin scoring. Then it was a big 5-1 win over Capital Football Gold to cap a great day for the Navy.
- White: Unfortunately, the White side couldn't find the winners circle on Day 2, falling to Football NSW Thunder 10-2 in the first match before losing 4-2 against Football West. Dayna Stevens was the standout, scoring three goals across the two matches.
