Victorian Boys fall agonisingly short of National Youth Championships Final

Victorian boys fall just short of Grand Final berth in the National Youth Championships. 

The quality of football didn't disappoint with two hard-fought, physical and dramatic matches, presenting an exciting prelude to the final day of the tournament.

U14 Semi-Final Western Australia Black v Victoria Blue 

The Victorian Blue side found themselves in the semi-final after topping their group, winning four matches and drawing one game.

At 4pm on Thursday, September 29, the undefeated side came up against Western Australia in a cut-throat match up with the chance to compete for national glory on the line.

Western Australia drew first blood via Cooper Maiden following up from a missed penalty kick, putting the Victorians on the back foot.

Despite Victoria's admirable determination to change the tempo of the match in the second half, Western Australia controlled possession enabling them to secure the 1-0 victory and advance to the final. 

The Victorian outfit ended up winning the third place play-off on Friday, September 30 with a 4-0 victory over NSW. 

 Anthony Didulica was their highest goal scorer with four goals for the tournament.

U15 Semi-Final  Queensland White v Victoria Blue 

All Victorian U15 teams finished second in their pools with Victoria Blue finishing fourth overall and securing a spot in the semi-finals against Queensland.

Victoria Blue took the field at 5:20pm on Thursday, September 29 against Queensland with the weight of the world on their shoulders after going through to the knockout stage undefeated.

The match-up was an epic back-and-forth tussle befitting the best players in the country with the Maroons making advancing to the grand final after a thrilling penalty shootout (4-3).

The Victorian outfit had the opportunity to score the opening goal during regular time after being awarded a penalty kick, although the ball would rocket into the crossbar.

Medin Memeti scored the most goals for Victoria Blue with four goals across the championship.
