NPLM July Player of the Month - Jamie Latham (Moreland City)

Congratulations to Moreland City’s Jamie Latham on receiving the most votes from the NPLM commentators throughout the month of July to be crowned the Player of the Month.

Latham has been immense through the midfield in keeping Moreland’s chances alive of staying in the NPL for another season.

The midfielder said the remaining two weeks of the season against Altona and Oakleigh were “massive” for his side in deciding their fate for next season.

“It is really important that we try to ensure we do all we can to stay up,” Latham said.

“They are both established teams over the last couple of years in NPL, especially Oakleigh, they are two huge games for the club.

“We will just go into it and give ourselves the best possible chance and hopefully come away with enough points to do the job  and give ourselves the best chance.”

In Round 24, Moreland shocked Heidelberg United, defeating the powerhouse 2-1 at home, to give them a fighting chance of survival.

“It was important to get the three points, especially at this time of the year and the situation we are in, it was just massive,” Latham explained.

“We were treating it like a cup final, well to be honest we need to treat every game from now on as a cup final to try and give ourselves as many points as possible to try and stay up.”

Despite an impressive season on the pitch, Latham hasn’t locked away his plans for next season.

“I am just thinking about the next couple of games, and then hopefully do the job and stay up, and then whatever happens next year happens next year,” he explained.

“It has been an enjoyable season and has been nice to step up again and hopefully give a good account of myself and put in good performances.”
