Pina Mollica of Keilor Park SC was named Community Female Coach of the Year at the FVCIB Full-Time Luncheon on Thursday, November 16 as part of the 2023 Football Victoria Community Awards.
For many years now Mollica has seamlessly juggled her full-time commitments while passionately coaching the "Little Eagles" Program, her Under 11 Girls team, and spearheading the GO Soccer Mums Program.
Mollica explained she doesn't take her role as a junior coach lightly, as she comprehends the imprint she is able to leave on her young players.
"I think it is a privileged position from the perspective a lot of times in these age groups, you are these kids' first coach," she said.
"You are the person who either continues their love for the sport or breaks away from it.
"It is a huge responsibility, you are also that person who they spend a fair amount of time with and nurture them through wins and losses."
Mollica's coaching commitment to teamwork, empowerment, and enjoyment have left an indelible mark on her community, and it is a joy to celebrate her well-deserved recognition.
"I measure my success not on the results, which were great but on the team showing up each training, each gameday and laughing at the end of the day regardless of the results," she added.
"I think it is an award for everyone who steps up to be a coach it is a role that people back away from as it is under criticism.
"For me, it is a celebration of anyone who steps up into these roles, because there are not many that do.
"I love the journey we are creating as a leadership team for anyone who wants to play sport and regardless of age group."
