Regional Pride on display at FV Regional Championships

Football Victoria and the regional football community are looking forward to the upcoming FV Country Championships - bringing together the state’s top regional talent for a weekend of high-quality football and community spirit.

Hosted in the Albury/Wodonga region between Saturday 7th and Monday 9th June, the Championships will feature representative teams from across regional Victoria, competing in male and female divisions to showcase their skills. The event is a key part of Football Victoria’s commitment to celebrating and supporting the game beyond Metropolitan Melbourne.

“After being involved for nearly a decade, it’s really clear that the Country Championships are a highlight of the broader football calendar,” Football Victoria Regional Development Manager, Lauren Stevens said.

“They’re a great opportunity for Football Victoria to build on the back of a strong history under the Country Leagues Football Association, and a great opportunity for regional players to test themselves in a representative setting, and for the whole football community to come together in.”

This year’s event is made possible with the support of the Victorian Government’s Significant Sporting Events Program, playing a vital role in delivering this major event for thousands of Regional Victorians.

Victorian Government Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos said this is an exciting opportunity to bring the best regional football teams from across the state to an iconic part of Victoria.

“This influx of footballing talent to the area will give fans a chance to see great players and provide a huge boost to local businesses and jobs," he said.

“We are extremely grateful for the Victorian Government’s backing and the support of Minister Dimopoulos, which ensures events like this can thrive and continue to grow,” Football Victoria Interim CEO Dan Birrell added.

“It’s fantastic recognition of the role regional sport plays in strengthening communities, and we can’t wait to continue building our service for regional Victorians moving forward.”

Alongside the on-field action, the event provides a boost to the local economy and offers pathways for young talent to progress in the game. Football Victoria also thanks local council, clubs, and volunteers for their efforts in making the Championships a success.

The FV Country Championships are aligned with Football Victoria’s Our Football strategic plan, highlighting the organisations ongoing investment in regional football development and participation.
