The Road to the Nike FC Cup Final: Preston Lions

Preston's journey to the Nike FC Cup Final has been nothing short of spectacular, featuring dominant victories and nail-biting thrillers against formidable VPLW opponents.

With the most potent attack in the #NPLWVIC, led by stars like Ellie La Monte, Haley Johnson, and Mebae Tanaka, the Lions are ready to face Bulleen in what promises to be an epic showdown. But will their firepower be enough to secure the coveted title?

Round 4: Sydenham Park (Home) - 12-1

Preston entered the tournament in the fourth round with a home match against State League 2 side Sydenham Park at B.T. Connor Reserve. The Lions outclassed their opponents from the start, scoring five goals in the first 25 minutes and cruising to a 12-1 victory. Haley Johnson netted five goals, Ellie La Monte scored a hat-trick, while Ellie Vlaeminck and Chanel Nikolovski each bagged a brace.

Round 5: Bentleigh Greens (Home) - 2-1

In their second Cup match, Preston faced a tougher challenge, hosting fellow NPLW side Bentleigh Greens. Bentleigh took an early lead with Olivia Bomford scoring just before half-time. However, Ellie La Monte rose to the occasion, scoring a second-half brace to secure a 2-1 win and send Preston to the Quarter-Finals.

Quarter-Finals: Spring Hills (Away) - 3-3 (4-5)

Next up was a trip to Springside Recreational Reserve to face Spring Hills, who have been a force in the VPLW this season. This away fixture proved to be Preston's toughest match, featuring four lead changes and a dramatic finish. Despite trailing twice, Preston held their nerve, ultimately winning 5-4 in extra time.

Semi-Finals: Bundoora United (Away) - 1-3

With just one win away from the Final, Preston faced Bundoora United, the last remaining VPLW team, at The Home of the Matildas. Preston took control early, heading into half-time with a 2-0 lead thanks to Haley Johnson's brace. Ellie La Monte added a third goal in the 59th minute, and despite Bundoora pulling one back, Preston maintained their lead, winning 3-1 and advancing to the Final.
