2024 NPLW Victoria Gold Medal and Golden Boot winner Maja Markovski is on fire for Bulleen Lions, taking out the March New Balance NPLW Player of the Month after receiving the most votes from the commentary team during Rounds 4–7.
After a slow start, Bulleen have clawed their way up to second place, with Markovski leading the charge, scoring nine goals in the past four weeks.
“It was a rough start with a short pre-season, but once we found form, the goals started coming and the team around me helped me hit my stride,” she said.
Markovski’s standout performance of the month came against Bentleigh, scoring four goals in a 7–0 win at the Veneto Club.
“I felt confident going into that game. Bentleigh are a solid team, so scoring four felt great, though there were a few more chances I probably should’ve finished. The team was creating so many opportunities it made my job easier.”
Back at Bulleen after a season with Spring Hills, she’s thriving under head coach Caitlin Friend.
“It was a controversial decision to sign with Bulleen because my dad is the coach at Spring Hills, but I feel I have unfinished business here,” Markovski said.
“We are chasing an elusive championship win and teaming up with Caitlin again who is someone who’s always believed in me made it non-negotiable. With a coach that believes in you, you can play your best football.”
Next up, Bulleen face 2025 Premiers Heidelberg United at Olympic Village in a massive clash on Saturday, April 11.
“We have a good run of games against some top opposition, and I think we are five wins in a row and conceded only one goal in that stretch,” she said.
“We are definitely in form and Heidelberg are starting to hit form so it will be quite an interesting clash.
“It will definitely a hard one to go to Olympic Village, but our main goal is to get three points there.”
