Tonight’s NPL Victoria Preliminary Final between Heidelberg United FC and Preston Lions FC should have been a highlight of the 2025 season, with two proud clubs competing for a place in the Grand Final.
While the football on the pitch lived up to all expectations, the behaviour of a small minority of attendees off it, was utterly unacceptable. Flares, projectiles and abusive conduct created an unsafe environment for spectators and players alike.
This behaviour was disgraceful. The wider football community has resoundingly condemned these acts and demanded action. There is no place for this in our game.
Football Victoria will not tolerate anti-social behaviour infiltrating what should be a celebratory occasion for all fans, including families and children.
Football Victoria will immediately commence an investigation and work swiftly to ensure those responsible are held accountable. Anyone with information, video footage or photographic evidence of the incidents is urged to assist by contacting discipline@footballvictoria.com.au.
