Steph Catley scores her first goal of the Barclays Super League season

Victorian Steph Catley scored her first goal of the Barclays Super League season in Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Leicester City.

Arsenal's three-goal victory cemented themselves on top of the ladder and continued their unbeaten start to the season.

The creative defender sent scored Arsenal’s third goal before half-time with a “brilliant delivery” from a corner.

“We talked about sending it directly under the crossbar and that is exactly what Arsenal did and it went straight into the goal,” The FA Player Women’s Football Show’s Siobhan Chamberlain said.

FA Player commentator Gary Taphouse was in disbelief after Catley’s goal, insisting it was a “shocking” goal for Leicester to concede.

“She (Catley) will take it, (but) that just should not happen,” he said.

“Arsenal get their third goal and Steph Catley saw it curl in, she could have not expected it would have gone all the way through, but it did.

“I don’t think it touched anyone, the goalkeeper has completely lost her bearings there, under pressure, ends up on the deck, and the ball ends up in the net”

Taphouse also lauded Catley’s performance against Leicester, following a below-par game last week.

“It is quite the turnaround for Steph Catley, who made that big error last week to allow West Ham to score, the only goal Arsenal has conceded this season in the WSL,” the commentator said during the broadcast.

“It is the perfect response this week, scoring direct from a corner.”

Catley has scored one goal and contributed three assists in the first eight rounds of the Barclays Super League.
