Two Victorians called up for Westfield Junior Matildas training camp
Football Victoria (FV) would like to congratulate Isabel Spiteri and Alana Murphy, who have been selected for the upcoming Westfield Junior Matildas training camp.
The camp will take place from 15 to 19 March and be held at Valentine Sports Park in NSW.
The star prospects are a part of FV’s National Training Centre (NTC) Girls Program and are two of a number of Victorians who have caught the attention of Young Matildas Head Coach, Rae Dower.
Football Victoria's Technical Director, Boris Seroshtan was thrilled to see the players be recognised for their hard work.
“We are very proud of Alana and Isabelle in being selected for the Junior Matildas training camp. After a difficult year in Victoria throughout COVID-19 in 2020, with approximately eight months in lockdown and the cancellation of the 2020 NPLW season, their selection is a credit to their continued efforts and determination,” he said.
"With the easing of Covid-19 restrictions, we hope to see more Victorian players selected into the Junior Matildas squad as we continue our preparations for the upcoming NPLW season.”
Featuring players born in 2005 and 2006, which is the birth cut-off year for players to participate in the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in India, the training camp is the first opportunity for Dower and her technical staff to commence preparations for Round 1 of the 2022 AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers.
“We're really excited about the new group coming through”. “It seems like every age cohort, we get probably a little bit more skill development, a little bit more creativity and a little bit more technically evolved,” Dower said.
“It seems like a lifetime ago that we were together in September 2019 with the last group. We've got an extended group of players that we've been keeping an eye on since the 2019 National Youth championships in July.”
