Two Victorians named CommBank Young Matildas squad for upcoming training camp

CommBank Young Matildas Head Coach Alex Epakis has selected two Victorians in a 25-player squad for a domestic training camp to be held in Sydney.

The camp forms a crucial part of the team’s preparations for the AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup Thailand 2026™ this April, where Australia will face Japan, Chinese Taipei and India in Group C. Qualification offers a pathway to the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Poland 2026™.

Fifteen members of the squad were part of the roster who successfully topped Group C in AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup qualification with the ten new players being drawn from the Ninja A-League.

Alex Epakis said the camp will serve as an important step in the team’s goal of FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualification.

“As a group we are working hard to prepare for the AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup Thailand 2026 and this camp serves as an important phase of our preparation.

“We are excited to bring together a group of players with a healthy mix of established U-20 international players as well as new faces who have earned their selection through impressive performance in the Ninja A-League.

“This camp will serve as another opportunity to work on our playing style and cohesiveness with our ultimate goal to qualify for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Poland 2026™.”
