Another year of Victorian Cup of Nations (VCON) is complete. A celebration of football and festival over the past four weeks created many memorable moments.
Football Victoria (FV), in partnership with the Victorian Government is thrilled to have hosted this event for the third year running.
Throughout February, The Home of The Matildas played host to VCON, showcasing national pride each Saturday of the month. The event was a celebration of cultural diversity and community connectedness through sport, embodying the essence of unity and mutual respect among Victoria's varied communities.
FV’s Social Football Coordinator, Simon Mamilovic noted the event was a great month of fusion with football and culture.
“Each year we are proud to be able to put on this event, that allows connections with players in and outside of their communities, creating new friendships and opportunities for all participants.”
The tournament results saw the Men’s 7v7 taken by Colombia, defeating Nepal Himalayan Tigers. New Zealand defeated Colombia in the women’s 7v7.
Reigning champions, India took out the men’s 11v11 against Myanmar after a 2 – 2 finish at full time, resulting in a penalty shoot out that saw India seal the deal.
Brazil was victorious over Greece in the women’s 11v11 to close out the tournament.
Congratulations to all the participants and thank you to everyone who made VCON a success. We hope to see you again!
