After two days of strong performances, team Victoria has emerged as a key contender ahead of a make-or-break day three at National Youth Championships for Boys.
Victoria Green Under-14s made it three wins from three this morning, scoring an incredible 13 goals while only conceding once to top the Under-14 ladder. The Under 15A Green team has also completed a clean sweep in the early stages of the tournament, winning three games in a row and scoring nine goals.
Football Victoria Technical Director, Boris Seroshtan was pleased with the strong start, stating the disruptions of the last two years meant the squads headed into the tournament with a point to prove.
“The biggest thing for us is finding a baseline because we've been in lockdown for two seasons. Now we're coming to Coffs Harbour after one season of training just to see where we're at. I think it's the biggest challenge.
“We've always been in the grand finals. We've always brought in the trophies. I hope these two years of lockdowns are not going to stop us this time” Seroshtan said.
The opening days provided quality attacking football, a variety of team styles, many goals and exciting individual performances.
Josh Kennedy, Football Australia’s General Manager of Member Federations, and former Socceroo is pleased by what he has seen in Coffs Harbour.
“Every state offers something a little bit different in the way they play. There are teams who hold possession, teams that are more direct, and then you see the little key pieces come to life. So far, the talent, standards and ball control has been good.”
“There have been a lot of goals as well, which is exciting to see from a striker’s point of view. It's good to see goals being scored and obviously that attacking play coming to life,” Kennedy said.
