As part of Wrexham AFC’s 2025 Pre-Season Down Under, the Championship side held a series of exclusive football camps at a number of select clubs designed to bring ‘The Wrexham Way’ to young footballers across Melbourne.
These clinics were delivered by Wrexham AFC’s Foundation coaches and hosted in collaboration with some of Australia’s most respected community clubs, including Oakleigh Cannons FC, Eastern Lions SC, Preston Lions FC, and Keilor Park SC.
The sessions were open to boys and girls aged 5–14 of all ability levels, and aimed to deliver a high-quality, inclusive football experience that blends fun, development, and cultural connection.

Wrexham legends Ben Foster and Ben Tozer were part of the trip, making appearances at the soccer camps. The duo both played key roles in the club’s promotion from the National League — the first of three consecutive promotions to create history, as Wrexham prepare to return to the second tier of English football for the first time in more than 40 years.
Jamie Edwards, Head of Community at Wrexham AFC, said it’s “incredibly important” for Wrexham AFC to connect with communities both in Wales and globally.
“These camps allow us to share what makes Wrexham AFC special, while learning from the passion and energy of the local game in Australia. It’s about building lasting relationships and giving young players a unique experience they’ll never forget.”
The Championship side is in Victoria as part of their ‘Down Under’ tour, where they’ll play pre-season friendlies against Melbourne Victory, Sydney FC, and Wellington Phoenix.

Club captain James McClean spoke to the media upon the team’s arrival in Melbourne and shared his excitement about visiting Australia for the first time.
“It’s great to come to Australia and to see new things and have new experiences, but we’re here to work. The Championship is the toughest challenge yet by far — that goes without saying,” he said.
“We want to be going into the season in the best shape possible. The lads have come back fit.
"During pre-season, we implement and put into place what we want to achieve this season. It's good preparation.”
As part of their stay in Melbourne, Wrexham AFC used La Trobe Sports Park and The Home of The Matildas gym to prepare for Friday’s fixture.
Wrexham AFC will take centre stage tomorrow night against Melbourne Victory at Marvel Stadium; 7:30pm kick-off.
