Victoria will welcome back the CommBank Matildas in July 2023, for a week-long training camp at The Home of The Matildas at La Trobe University, ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023TM.
The high-performance Victorian State Football Centre will support the CommBank Matildas’ preparation during their pre-FIFA Women’s World Cup window, before the team relocates to Queensland, in preparation for their first match against Republic of Ireland in Sydney on Thursday 20 July.
Victoria will also welcome some of the very best football nations in July, who have selected Victorian Team Base Camps - including the Victorian State Football Centre at La Trobe University - for their tournament preparation.
Team Base Camp selections are made by participating teams following extensive reviews and inspections, taking into account the location of matches, travel and specific camp requirements.
Canada will base themselves at Olympic Park in Heidelberg West, while Morocco will call Galvin Park Reserve home for the group stage.
Following interest from several high-profile international teams, Jamaica were ultimately successful through FIFA’s allocation process and will call the Victorian State Football Centre home for the group stage.
The Victorian State Football Centre will also host teams training in preparation for the Round of 16 matches in Melbourne.
In a thrilling development for Victorian football fans, Football Australia and the Victorian Government today announced that the CommBank Matildas camp at the Home of The Matildas will culminate in a blockbuster farewell match against a current top 10 FIFA Women’s World Ranking team at Marvel Stadium on Friday, 14 July.
Providing an opportunity for fans to wish the team well in their FIFA Women’s World CupTM quest, the match will be highly anticipated by Victorian football fans.
