Victorians Abroad 21/1/25

A strong week of performances for Victorians playing across the globe saw plenty of minutes, goals, and key contributions from our footballing stars.

Stacey Papadopoulos – Hibernian (SWPL 1, Scotland)

Stacey Papadopoulos, a product of Calder United, played a full 90 minutes in Hibernian's dominant 3-0 victory over Aberdeen on January 20 in the SWPL Cup. Her strong performance in the midfield helped ensure a solid win, continuing her impressive form in Scotland.


Jordy Bos – K.V.C. Westerlo (Belgian First Division A, Belgium)

Jordy Bos, who began his journey at Hoppers Crossing, made his mark on the Belgian Pro League on January 20. Despite Westerlo’s 3-2 loss to Antwerp, Bos was a standout, playing 90 minutes, taking five shots, and scoring a vital goal, further showcasing his attacking flair.


Jason Davidson – Panserraikos (Greek Super League, Greece)

Jason Davidson, a former Hume City talent, was instrumental in Panserraikos’ 2-0 victory over Lamia in the Greek Super League. Playing the full 90 minutes, Davidson not only scored a goal but also contributed 79 passes, solidifying his role as a key player in the team’s success.


Jamie Maclaren – Mohun Bagan SG (Indian Super League, India)

Sunbury United's very own Jamie Maclaren was pivotal in Mohun Bagan’s 1-1 draw with Jamshedpur on January 18 in the Indian Super League. Maclaren played 82 minutes, registering three shots on target, as his continued efforts highlight his skill and leadership up front.


Jackson Irvine – St. Pauli (Bundesliga, Germany)

The Frankston Pines junior, played a crucial 90 minutes in St. Pauli’s 2-0 victory over Heidenheim on January 19. The defensive midfielder was influential in the team’s success, making vital contributions that helped secure a much-needed win in the Bundesliga.


Denis Genreau – Toulouse (Ligue 1, France)

Denis Genreau, who honed his skills at Brighton SC, played 85 minutes in Toulouse’s 0-0 draw with Lyon in Ligue 1 on January 19. The midfielder’s one shot on goal and disciplined performance were integral to Toulouse earning a hard-fought point.


Nick Ansell – Nakhon Ratchasima (Thai League 1, Thailand)

Nick Ansell, from Box Hill United, played the full 90 minutes in Nakhon Ratchasima’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Uthai Thani on January 19 in the Thai Premier League. Despite scoring an own goal, Ansell contributed 17 passes and helped secure all three points for his side.


Bailey Wright – Lion City Sailors (S League, Singapore)

The Langwarrin junior, started for Lion City Sailors in their dominant 6-0 win over Albirex Niigata on January 17 in the S League. Though he was substituted off, Wright played a key role in the defense as his team cruised to an emphatic victory.


Garang Kuol – Newcastle (Premier League 2, England)

Garang Kuol, a promising young  GV Suns talent, played 90 minutes for Newcastle U21 in their 4-2 loss to Southampton U21 on January 17. The forward, known for his flair, scored a goal and had two shots, showcasing his potential despite the defeat.


Steph Catley – Arsenal (Women's Super League, England)

Steph Catley, who developed her skills at East Bentleigh and Sandringham, was solid in defense during Arsenal’s 5-0 win over Crystal Palace in the Women’s Super League on January 20. Catley played a full 90 minutes, contributing one tackle and completing 92 passes to help her team dominate.


Kyra Cooney-Cross – Arsenal (Women's Super League, England)

Kyra Cooney-Cross, a graduate of Ballarat City and FV NTC, played 90 minutes in Arsenal's 5-0 victory over Crystal Palace on January 20. Her industrious performance in midfield included one shot, further cementing her role as a key contributor in the Gunners' success.


Teagan Micah – Liverpool (Women's Super League, England)

The Moe-born talent, played the full 90 minutes in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion on January 18. The goalkeeper made one crucial save, showcasing her shot-stopping ability and helping Liverpool secure all three points in the Women's Super League.
