Victorians deliver as Young Socceroos claim Asian Cup

The Young Socceroos claimed the AFC U20 Asian Cup title on Saturday night, securing their place as the best team in the region.

Victoria played a significant role in this achievement, with several key players contributing to the success of the national team.

Among the standout Victorian players, Joshua Inserra (Melbourne Victory / Fawkner SC) was a defensive pillar, providing composure and resilience at the back. Zach Lisolajski (Perth Glory / Sydenham Park SC) showed his versatility and defensive capabilities, proving to be a reliable presence, both coming into the team for the final.

Medin Memeti (Melbourne City / Dandenong Thunder FC) was an unused substitute in the final, but proved a valuable asset throughout the tournament, claiming player of the match honours in Australia’s clash against China. Sebastian Esposito (US Lecce, Italy / Brunswick City SC) captained the side and played a starring role in the crunch clash.

This triumph is a testament to the continued growth of football in Victoria. The success of these young athletes serves as inspiration for the next generation of footballers, reinforcing the strength of the state’s football programs.

The victory also underscores the importance of grassroots football in developing elite talent. The clubs, coaches, and development programs across Victoria have played an integral role in nurturing the players who represented Australia on the international stage.
