Football Victoria is thrilled the completion of a significant sports lighting upgrade on pitch one at Waratah Reserve in Eumemmerring is complete.
This exciting development marks a milestone for the local football community and Doveton SC, as the first game under lights in five years took place on Saturday, April 12—58 years since the venue's opening.
The upgrade was celebrated in style with a special event attended by City of Casey Mayor, Cr Stefan Koomen, Gabrielle Williams MP, Minister for Transport Infrastructure and Public and Active Transport, alongside representatives from Doveton Soccer Club.
FV Head of Growth & Development, Lachlan Cole said the upgrade is a “fantastic step forward” for football in the region.
“These improvements will provide better facilities for players, coaches, and fans, ensuring that football in the area continues to thrive. This is a perfect example of how investment in local infrastructure positively impacts the growth of the game at the grassroots level.”
As part of the works, the existing 20-metre pole was reused, and three new poles were installed, each with two LED light fittings. The new LED lights—each delivering an impressive 259,000 lumens—are a massive upgrade compared to the old 2,000W metal halide lights. This has resulted in a much brighter and more energy-efficient facility for players and supporters.
Cr Koomen displayed his excitement for the upgrade, claiming it is a game-changer for the local sporting community.
“By reusing existing infrastructure and adding powerful new LED lighting, we’ve not only improved visibility dramatically but also created a safer, more accessible space for players of all ages to train and play."
The lighting upgrade was made possible through a joint funding partnership between the City of Casey and the Victorian Government via its Local Sports Infrastructure Fund—Community Sports Lighting stream. With these new lights, the future of football at Waratah Reserve has never looked brighter.
